| Evaluation of the impact of the environmental semester
Professor Thomas Hood (Sociology) and College Scholar Ryan Wishart, are documenting the impact of the ENVIRONMENTAL SEMESTER on participating students and faculty as well as the campus in general.
Two groups, (1) a random sample of University of Tennessee undergraduates and (2) persons attending events held in connection with the ENVIRONMENTAL SEMESTER have received surveys.
Currently undergraduate students who have declared a major or identified with a particular program are completing an in depth questionnaire on environmental experiences, issues, knowledge, concern and behaviors sent to them by email.
A short paper survey instrument has been distributed to attendees at a selection of sponsored events. (Both surveys received approval through the IRB process with Brenda Lawson. Professor Robert Emmett Jones, an expert in survey research, has consulted throughout the questionnaire construction, sample design and analysis process)
When those returns are complete they will provide an estimate of the level of concern, knowledge, and activity on environmental issues in the student population.
Wishart and Hood will post a summary of the results of responses to the various events studied as well as the survey of students on this web site. In addition, Hood plans to interview several key administrators on campus to document on going efforts of the University to respond to environmental concerns and problems. In the late spring a follow-up survey will be administered to the students who participated.
